Keeping your TikTok account secure
Your account security remains our priority at TikTok. We offer the security checkup feature in the TikTok app to allow you to strengthen your account protection.
To access security checkup:
1. Tap Profile at the bottom.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
3. Tap Security & permissions.
4. Tap Security checkup. From here, you can:
༚ Link and verify your phone number.
༚ Link and verify your email address.
༚ Turn on 2-step verification.
༚ Manage trusted devices. (If we detect unfamiliar devices, we'll ask you to review them.)
༚ Check your account's security activity. (If there are no unusual activities in the last 30 days, we'll automatically check this step.)
༚ Add a passkey to your account.
Once you complete a task in your security checkup, a green checkmark indicates its status. We recommend completing as many security tasks as possible to better protect your account.
If you prefer to manage each security setting individually, here are some tips to keep your TikTok account safe and secure:
Link a phone number and email address to your TikTok account
We recommend adding two contact methods to your account. This way, if one linked method is compromised, you have an alternative login method.

Create a strong and unique password
Choose a password that's unique to you and difficult for others to guess.
To make a strong TikTok password:
• Aim for 12 to 15 characters long.
• Use a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
• Change your password often—ideally every 30 days.
• Use different passwords for different accounts. Avoid using generic passwords or using personal information such as your name, birthday, or address.

Add a passkey to your TikTok account
For a simpler and secure login method, we strongly recommend setting up a passkey on your TikTok account. A passkey is a secure digital key stored on your mobile device that allows you to log in to your TikTok account without having to remember a password.
Passkeys can provide a more secure login method than traditional passwords because they take advantage of security features already allowed on your device, such as Face ID (Apple), Passcode (Apple), Touch Unlock (Android), and PIN (Android). Additionally, you can log in to your passkey-enabled TikTok account from any device that is also signed in to your Apple ID or Google account.

Turn on 2-step verification
To further protect your account, we strongly recommend turning on 2-step verification (2SV). This security feature helps confirm your identity by adding an extra layer of protection when you log in from a new or unfamiliar device.
2SV also provides an additional safeguard for your account in case your password is compromised. Many people only have one layer to protect their account, which is their password. However, if someone obtains your password and you have 2SV turned on, they'll still need access to your phone or email address when attempting to log in to your account.

How to manage trusted devices
Any time you log in to TikTok using an unrecognized device or a third-party application, you'll be asked to enter your password and a one-time verification code (sent via SMS or email).
If you access TikTok repeatedly from a known, trusted device, you can choose to remember this device after entering the one-time verification code to avoid being prompted again.
To review and manage trusted devices on your account:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Security & permissions.
- Tap Manage devices and review the devices listed.
- If you don't recognize a device, tap the Delete button, then tap Remove to remove it. We also recommend that you change your password to protect your account.
How to recover your TikTok account with friend verification
If you can't log into your account or reset your password, you can recover your account by requesting verification from friends you are connected with on TikTok.
To recover your account by requesting verification from friends:
1. Open the TikTok app and tap the Help button at the top.
2. Tap Recover your account.
3. Enter the account username or email linked to your account, then tap Search. You can also tap Search by phone number if you've linked a number to your account.
4. On your account page, tap Can't access these? at the bottom, then select Ask friends to verify.
5. Tap Start.
6. Tap Share to paste instructions and send them to your friends through another method, such as iMessage. You can also edit the instructions and write your own message.
Important things to know about requesting verification from friends:
• Your friends will receive your request for verification through a notification on the Security & permissions page of their account settings. They may need to upgrade their app to the latest iOS version to see this notification.
• At least 2 friends are required for the verification process.
• Your friends will only have a specific period of time to verify your account.
• You can only request friend verifications a limited number of times each day.
• You’ll be notified if you pass or fail verification. If you pass you’ll be logged in automatically, and if you fail, you can try again or use another recovery method.
